Slot booking in the Port of Hamburg

Back

Slot booking at terminals, depots, packing stations and authorities provides planning security for truckers

The capacity of container ships handled in the Port of Hamburg has steadily increased in recent years. The more cargo a ship transports, the more truck calls have to be coordinated at the terminal. In order to better plan the increased volume of traffic in advance and avoid bottlenecks in handling, the slot booking procedure was introduced in the Port of Hamburg in 2017. By allocating slots, the terminals avoid handling peaks and can distribute the trucks more evenly throughout the day. The platform is mandatory for all container deliveries and collections at the HHLA and Eurogate container terminals, as well as at three container depots and the veterinary and import office. Currently, around 10,000 truck movements are coordinated every day. Traffic jams in front of the terminals are largely a thing of the past in Hamburg. Slot booking is also ideal for seaports, inland ports and multimodal terminals.
